Based a stone's throw from the Musée d'Orsay, Antonin Mercier has now been ticking along in his Parisian workshop for over a year. Having cut his teeth in the art world, in 2015 Antonin decided to try his hand at making accessible and quirky watches, and so Laps was born. In his workshop, adjacent to a shaded courtyard just off rue de Bellechasse, watch design and assembly are brought together with creativity and a fresh attitude. With a style that adds a sense of mischief to the traditional, the Laps watch is an invitation to adventure. Each collection is a cabinet of curiosities, giving the watch a timeless and unique quality.
A real connoisseur of Parisian craftsmanship, Antonin Mercier likes to find materials steeped in history that inhabit and reflect his world. The woods he uses are rare and carefully chosen: mottled maple, sapele or Macassar Ebony, some of which date from several centuries J.C., such as bog oak. The leathers also come from one of the oldest companies in Paris, all worked by an artisan in the Marais. The braided watch straps, available in ten colours, have a vintage feel, and can be easily interchanged to adapt the watch to suit individual styles. The timeless photographs featured on the dials of the Signature collection come from around the globe, signalling Laps' singular identity.
The fruit of a passion for art, Laps watches are designed and produced as unique objects. Each dial is carefully hand-worked by French artisans in order to create a high-quality product. The unique Laps watch is presented in a custom-designed box. Numbered and released in limited editions, Laps watches preserve the originality of the materials and photographs carefully selected by Antonin.
