ASWAD

ASWAD IS A PARISIAN LEATHER GOODS WORKSHOP FOUNDED IN 2015 BY SONIA AHMIMOU, A SADDLE MAKER AND LEATHER CRAFTSWOMAN WHO ACQUIRED HER KNOW-HOW WORKING IN THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS MAISONS. SHE INJECTED A NEW DESIRE FOR MULTICULTURALISM INTO FRENCH TRADITION, USING THE CLASSIC FEATURES OF LEATHERWORK ON STREETWEAR BUMBAGS AND BACKPACKS.

URBAN ARTISANAL CREATIONS

Aswad’s uniqueness lies in the continuity between its vision, design and manufacturing process, without factories, subcontracting or industrial machinery. The inaugural collection is composed of pieces produced in 97 numbered copies, available in black and vegetable-tanned natural leather, giving the bags a soft feel and allowing a unique patina to develop over time. Aswad’s vision is combined with artisanal methods, closely respecting saddle-making traditions. It brings French heritage into the modern-day with a unisex, elegant product which is both practical and timeless.

SONIA AHMIMOU

After eight years spent in the Hermès, Moynat and Louis Vuitton workshops, this young French woman of Moroccan origin brought the influences of her own background and urban everyday life to the realm of traditional saddle making. She designs and creates each piece in her workshop from A to Z, a process requiring around fifteen hours of manual work and just as many manufacturing stages.

UNIQUE

Characterised by graphic elegance, combining brutalist and Islamic architecture, the Aswad workshop also takes special orders. These unique styles take shape through the dialogue between the leather craftsman and private clients, and feature rare leathers to ensure exceptional pieces.
